CHRIS TRUEMAN

CV

Chris Trueman’s colorful abstract paintings are created on Yupo, a synthetic paper that he mounts onto sintra (pvc). The unique interaction of the non-porous surface of Yupo and acrylic paint (both sprayed and applied with brush and squeegee) allows for the paint to be applied and removed allowing form to be created as both as positive and negative space,  an idea that that is typically achieved through digital and photographic mediums. In doing this, the painting provides an optical sense of depth in perception through gestural marks that seemingly float to the foreground while others recede.  His paintings give the impression of tactility while remaining physically dematerialized. They are an amalgamation of Gestural painting, Op art, Color-Field painting and Abstract Expressionism histories.
